Tabe

.coming soon

Search it. Scan it. Log it.

Tabe is a free calorie tracker that works offline, with every nutrient, no account and nothing behind a paywall. It's on its way to iPhone and Android.

Your day at a glance.

Today shows what's left, how your protein, carbs and fat are going, and what you ate at each meal.

Logging takes a few taps. The foods you eat most come first, and yesterday's breakfast is one tap away.

An early design of Today. The numbers are an example, and the app will change before it's out.

Everything a calorie tracker should do, for free.

.search
The food database lives on your phone, so results show up straight away, even with no signal. The foods you eat most come first.
.scan
Scan a barcode and Tabe finds it in a download for your country. If a product is missing, it can look online, but only when you say so.
.nutrients
Calories, protein, carbs and fat, plus every vitamin and mineral the data has, with targets for your age and sex that you can change.
.recipes
Build recipes from your own ingredients, weigh the cooked pot and log your portion by weight. Save the meals you eat often.
.targets
Tabe shows how it works out your targets, so you can check them. With Kitae, the energy your workouts use counts too.
.weight
Log your weight and see the trend underneath the day-to-day ups and downs.

Works with no signal.

Everyday foods from the USDA and Health Canada come inside the app. Branded foods come in one download for your country, refreshed every month.

Online lookups stay off until you turn them on, and you can point them at a server you run yourself. Your diary stays on your phone.

  • .yoursThe foods and recipes you add
Where Tabe's food data comes from. Every food shows its source.

Your diary is a file, and it is yours.

Tabe has no accounts and no cloud. It backs up once a day to a plain zip file in any folder you like, and a backup made on iPhone restores on Android, and the other way round.

Export everything as a spreadsheet or as JSON, or print a report to take to a dietitian or doctor.

  • .no accounts
  • .no ads
  • .no tracking
  • .no paywall
A backup made on one phone restores on the other, and exports open anywhere.

Kind by design.

Tabe is for understanding what you eat, not for feeling bad about it.

.no red numbers
Going over a target shows as a plain number, never as a warning.
.no streaks
Miss a day and nothing breaks. Pick up where you left off.
.numbers optional
A mode that hides calories and keeps everything else.
.sensible targets
A floor on how low targets go, and a gentle note if your weight is dropping fast.

Coming in stages.

Tabe, 食べ

Tabe comes from the Japanese taberu, "to eat": something you do every day, worth a little attention.

A calendar with one square for each day you log, like Kitae's. This one is an example.
